Raj Persaud used to be the resident psychiatrist on UK national television’s This Morning show. The quote, taken from Wikipedia, shows how astute Persaud is.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU AND CONFIDENCE COURSES TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE?
Persaud is saying that self confidence can be obtained by an attitude, kicked off with a decision. The vital decision is that we should take charge of our destiny.
Our taking charge could go something like this: You’re doing this job you don’t like doing right now, or perhaps you are unemployed and unhappy right now, but instead of just feeling terrible about it and doing nothing, you have made the decision to help yourself get out of this situation.
The biggest step you can take from Confidence Courses
This is a big step – it’s a simple step too – but its hard because most people don’t ever get this far. Because of fear and procrastination they choose to suffer where they are, just in case what they do instead is worse. It won’t be, of course. But often it takes simple lessons from confidence courses and personal development to set us on the right path.
What action can we take to help ourselves? First off, you can decide where you’d rather be than ‘here.’ Just saying anywhere but here is no good. You need to think about it and choose where you want to go.
This is critical.
And secondly, you need to choose to go there… and then you need to move… to set of in the direction you’ve chosen. Because if you never more then things will never change. Just because you buy a ticket to a destination doesn’t mean you get there.
You have to travel too. If you’ve decided to move, you’ve picked up a how-to book, or you’ve started out on some confidence courses, that’s great. That’s a start. And then you need to put what you know into practice – into action. To get fulfillment, a better life, whatever you crave, it is the actions you take that will get you there..
Persaud also says that we must acknowledge some things are beyond our control. That’s good advice too.
Personal development and confidence gurus and of yesteryear (some more recent also) have suggested that everything is just mind over matter. Persaud’s advice is that we should learn to accept even our best laid plans may not work out the way we intended. If we can accept this we can flexibly adapt our plans to suit our new circumstances, never blaming ourselves for ‘failing’ when our plans have been delayed by circumstances beyond our control. This will keep you ‘on the level’ ready to respond to whatever comes your way.
So, for your more confident course in life, decide on your action and then move along…. and don’t blame yourself if things change around you. It’s not your fault. It’s all just a part of the great game.
